Supervision of work in connection with the maintenance, repair of, and minor extensions to, Government buildings. Candidates should have had experience in the general supervision of building works and possess a knowledge of work and preparation of estimates of cost, and must have received a practical training prefer- ably as a carpenter.

£310 per annum rising by annual increments of £10 to £330 during the third year. Half salary will be paid during the voyage out. On the satisfactory completion of his agreement the officer will be eligible for leave on full salary at the rate of one-twelfth of his service, less leave taken during service. He will also be entitled to half salary for the voyage home.

Candidates must be between the ages of twenty- td four and thirty years and unmarried and should

they marry after appointment will not be eligible for married privileges in respect of rent allowance or passages.

A conveyance allowance, based on the amount of travelling done on duty, will be granted in accordance with General Orders.

An unmarried officer is granted a lodging allowance of $50 per month or the actual rent paid by him whichever sum is less.

Second Class passages out and home will be provided for the officer only,subject in the latter case to satisfactory service.

Three years. The officer will be eligible for consideration for any suitable vacancy which may exist in the permanent establishment on the expiration of his agreement but no guarantee of employment beyond three years can be given.

For purposes of payments in the Colony sterling salaries are at present converted into Hong Kong dollars at rates fixed by the Government. The rate is at present fixed at the average current monthly rate of exchange.

The officer will not be entitled to contribute to the Widows' and Orphans' Pension Scheme unless and until he is transferred to the permanent establishment in the circumstances mentioned under Head 7.
